The Alspaugh Suite, located in the Sheppard House, is an expansive, yet warm room that takes up an entire wing of the house. This second-floor accommodation, with colors of crisp, midnight blue and coral, is inspired by the home’s storied past. It features a king-size bed, desk, and cozy swivel chair and has an amazing view of the Ludlow House, and the street behind the inn that is lined with beautiful West End homes. The ample bathroom is lined with windows and includes double pedestal sinks, a clawfoot tub, substantial walk-in shower and oversized antique Victorian mirror.
The Sheppard House, built soon after the property was purchased in 1892, is a grandiose, two-story brick residence with eclectic design. Situated on a tranquil street, it’s ideal for a peaceful night’s rest. Signature features include Tudor labels over the windows, a wrap-around porch with intricate design, and a parapeted gable roof with finials crowning each gable peak. The outside is almost as stunning as the inside. The small vestibule holds a Victorian closed string stair, heavily molded wood cornice, paneled doors, and Colonial Revival fireplace mantel. Benjamin J. Sheppard, a tobacco leaf dealer and company owner, was a charter member of Twin City Club and an elder in First Presbyterian Church.
